On August 18th, three leading Chinese rappers in the Trap, Memphis, and Rage styles – Lianma Swimming, AP Mozart, and UPNEVERDOWN – will bring the dynamic power of Chinese hip-hop to the southern hemisphere. Teaming up with Sydney’s renowned bar Embassy and the Australian Chinese hip-hop community hub OH!, they are set to ignite Liberty Hall. We’ve also invited Sydney’s top hip-hop DJ, Lil Boy, to lead the entire performance, with DJ David delivering an electrifying pre-show. Lianma Swimming is currently the top figure in Chinese Trap, known for his distinctive tone and genius-level creativity, firmly establishing his place in Chinese hip-hop. AP Mozart has quickly risen in the hip-hop scene with his sharp, authentic lyrics and fierce performance style, often hailed by Memphis fans as the leading figure in Chinese Memphis right now. His hits “Big Smoke” and “APE” perfectly capture the Memphis style, unmatched in their intensity and energy, leaving audiences electrified with every performance.

UPNEVERDOWN, with hits like “CN RAGE” and “NCS,” is the phenomenal new star in Chinese Rage music. Every recorded performance has an atmosphere so explosive it leaps off the screen. His unique wild style, high-quality production, and distinct watermark make every listener feel the impact of Rage music. Both his music and live performances showcase his exceptional talent and limitless potential in the Rage music field.

Gallery Turns 4

On Saturday, August 3rd we’re taking over Eora’s Liberty Hall to celebrate another lap around the sun. Every Bday, we focus on lineups that are Gallery through and through, a snapshot of our roster from the past, present and future. An extra special party means we’ll be bumping in additional production to make it shine.

Please meet our stellar cast of artists for the Eora leg: Human Movement, Oots, Claire O’Brien, Tom Bruce + Cleo, Jai Piccone, & Mincy.

Power couple Tom Bruce + Cleo will kickstart things with their spritely blend of soulful and housey rollers. Seasoned professionals at creating superb vibes for parties to thrive, these two will have us off on the right foot.

Next comes Northern Rivers-based songwriter/producer Jai Piccone. After releasing 2 EPs with him over the last 12 months we thought it fitting he flexed some of the faster rhythms on his USBs. Don’t let his originals fool you, there’s an untapped palette of dance in Jai’s arsenal.

Up third is Naarm selector Claire O’Brien, a lady no stranger to curating gorgeous mixes. A label owner herself (Ode) and a long-time resident of Nomad Radio, Claire knows what it takes to get a dancefloor properly pumping. Over the trip, Claire has supported the likes of Mall Grab, Tommy Holohan, X-Coast, Lauren Hansom and more and we can’t wait to have her spin with us.

From here we head into UKG and hard house courtesy of Human Movement. With the drop of his Subtle EP imminent and fresh off a tour of New Zealand, he’ll be serving up prime club cuts across a heated 90 minutes. Witness the resurgence of one of Australia’s longest-standing club projects IRL.

As we dip into the later hours, Oots takes the reins. A burgeoning star of Naarm’s techno and hard groove scene, Oots has had his tracks played by Skin On Skin, VTSS, Mall Grab, Sam Alfred and DJ Heartstring. Keep an eye out for his Lost Boy EP rolling out over the next few months.

While bringing us home is Extra Spicy label owner and Harbour City favourite Mincy. With an eclectic taste for quicker-paced genres such as speed garage, techno and rave, she’ll carry you into a new day – all gas, no brakes.

Like we always say, come early and dance til late.

Big love,

Gallery

Tourist

Tourist, the moniker of UK songwriter and producer William Phillips, has dedicated the past decade to exploring the nuances of beats and melodies in electronic music. Raised in London, his early exposure to rave music and iconic artists like Daft Punk and The Chemical Brothers shaped his musical evolution.

As Tourist, he boasts four albums, a diverse portfolio of remixes, and a Grammy Award for co-writing Sam Smith’s ‘Stay With Me.’ The profound experiences of the COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with the loss of a close friend and the arrival of fatherhood, inspired Tourist’s 2022 album ‘Inside Out.’ This tender work, marked by swinging garage grooves and French filter house melodies, captures the interplay of grief and joy. Recognizing that his audience values his music as a cohesive journey, Tourist will be releasing his fifth album in 2024.

Departing from explicit autobiography, the album explores a mood-based, instinctive style influenced by shoegaze, psychedelic music, and the collagist nostalgia of The Avalanches. Tourist’s shift away from dancefloor-centric tracks to “wordless songs” designed for closer listening. The immersive experience, blending folk vocals, synth lines, and nostalgic melodic house ambience, creates a captivating yet disorienting sonic landscape. Tourist envisions this latest chapter as a place listeners revisit frequently, discovering new nuances with each return, reflecting his unyielding pursuit of the perfect song.
