Goldie + Calibre

It is with great privilege to present a night of drum’n’bass royalty.

An absolute monster double header of original – far-reaching – culture-shifting – distinctly British sonics. Two of club culture’s most influential figures come together like voltron. On Friday 5th January @ Liberty Hall, brace yourselves for a proper rinseout with none other than Goldie and Calibre.

While perhaps both are most defined by the genre “dnb”, don’t pigeonhole the breadth of these two forward-thinking shapeshifters. This is a night of boundary-melting sounds by two visionaries who know exactly how to evoke the intangible in their music, whatever the form.

Goldie is a cultural phenomenon. He is one of the UK dance music’s biggest crossover stars. His sense of ambition grand enough to rival most classical composers. A pioneering force of innovation within breakbeats, hardcore, jungle, and drum’n’bass, his presence on the artform is profound.

Honing his skills with 4Hero’s Reinforced Records, Goldie went on to co-found the iconic Metalheadz label which released key releases from a literal who’s who of dnb. Of course, then came his debut album Timeless – putting Goldie squarely at the top of the drum’n’bass heap in the minds of critics and mainstream listeners, a record that still commonly lands itself in “greatest of all time” lists (across all genres). A uniquely visible personality in British DJ culture, his grand vision, gold teeth and b-boy attitude gained attention well beyond music. He has done it all, yet continues to push ambitious projects, fusing his love of funk and soul with a future-leaning ethos.

Calibre has been creating music for 25 years and no one has come close to touching his sound. A painter, multi-instrumentalist, singer, writer, producer and DJ – the Belfast bread godfather of liquid has influenced generations of artists across many angles. He’s done so with a restrained melancholy that’s broad enough to encompass a myriad of tempos and genres.

Calibre’s productions masterfully elicit an organic feeling that cannot be replicated. He boasts a prolific catalogue of music via cult labels such as Creative Source, Soul:r, Exit Records, Deep Medi Musik and his own defining Signature Records.

An awe-inspiring DJ – Calibre’s sets draw from his own personal spectrum, never resort to hype tactics and are perennially sprung with never-before-heard surprises.

“Some people are students and practise an art form, whilst others perfect and become masters of their craft – to me Calibre unquestionably falls into the latter” – Goldie

Two giants come to Sydney / Eora – each with their own singular signature. Don’t miss this momentous occasion.
